Reunion Updates

Pockers!
We're nearly ready for the reunion!
Pocky and I (mostly Pocky though XD ) have been working on the reunion page. Most of the festivities should take place on one page, including the "reunion photo", classic AP events, classic chat boards, etc.
We've prepared some surprises for the reunion date, but we do plan to continue to give away prizes and have lots of activities for the day!

On June 1st we will launch the AP Reunion Hall page. If you know any Pockers you are in contact with that haven't been around in a while, invite them back for the day to sign the guest book, and maybe leave a contact!

Now all we need is you to come, and we'll have a party! See you Sunday, June 1st!

AP REUNION DAY! AP REUNION DAY!

We're less than two weeks away from the AP Reunion!
So far the response has been great! Pockers have been contacting past members already and we've seen a resurgence of so many classic pockers to the site! Well June 1st is your chance to leave your everlasting (as long as the internets and AP last that is) mark on the site by signing the official guestbook of members past, present, and future.

We invite you and any past pockers to come and sign the book. If you are, or if you know someone who hasn't been on the site in a while. Check these forum posts for missing pockers and how the reunion recovery effort has been going.

Aside from the guestbook, on reunion day, AP will feature giveaways and classic AP events! We have two prizes already, a $25 Gaia Online gift card and a swank Megaman computer game!
As for classic AP events...
Maybe stuff like the magnet board!

1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.

Its a virus, but not a harmful or deadly one...(how is a computer virus deadly..I do not know... O.o;; ) but rather a cute one.

The virus reminds me alot of a game I use to have. Its called Kirby tilt and tumble. If you've ever played that game, it seems that the virus is simmilar to that game!

Coverage from NMAC '08

Well, it's finally done.
Northern Michigan Anime Convention '08 (AKA Ani-Pock Con ;) ) debuted this last weekend in Traverse City, MI, USA.

It was seriously three months maximum of planning, that's all, and it all came together in one day! Now I've finally had time to rest, recover from the fatigue sickness I got from all of the planning and event day stress, and I've got my computer running now since I nearly broke it after all of the work I was doing in the final days before the con!
But I do report that NMAC was a hit. We certainly have a great convention set up for next year.
I do not believe any A-Pers came up this weekend in attendance, but it was still quite the little event.

First off, opening ceremony introduced a different kind of masquerade event, Mr. & Mrs. NMA, which, as I've said, and you can quote me, is like prom king and queen for those of us who never stood a chance. Well we crowned two winners, the queen got a tiara and the king, a Nabeshin fro. They got lunch with special guest Tiffany "Asuka" Grant, got neat gift bags, and even got the first dance during the closing ceremony and dance.
If you ever wanted to see Kip... well... here I am in the opening con video. Guess which one I am (not the married one).

(Additional note: Ladies, I'm not the married one!)

Miss Grant, our guest of honor was a hoot! She is quite a personable gal and very flexible with all the things we had her doing. She even helped judge the Mr. & Mrs. competition. Baka Savant Productions premiered their latest movie to the con as our opening film. They are a talented bunch of parodists from within the state who use World of Warcraft as their engine for storytelling in their online video series, "The Chronicle of the Annoying Quest". Both Baka and Tiffany sat in and did autographs and panels.

The dealer's room was great. It was designed for few dealers, but each had unique merchandise and they had lots of space! One such anime video rental shop set up a booth in the dealer's room which was run by the same MacHarborGuy at Geek Media that filmed most of our convention and was the reason we got Baka Savants! Rob at Geek Media was a tremendous help in our first year in making our convention what it was.

We also had the usual things, gaming room, screenings, fanart room, and something near and dear to me, the Maid Cafe. I worked as a butler while I staffed two lovely maids to serve lunch and visit with our customers. Cafe visitors could also check out a manga as well. One of the maids, I have a tremendous crush on, she's so full of energy and was willing to do anything and everything for the con. She did the dancing in the opening video too! She changed outfits four times that day. It was great having her a the convention and as a maid.

We also had some terrific volunteers who did panels and skits throughout the day. A lot of great people to thank, who not only volunteered time and money, but some good effort as well. Several people come to mind as I write this. I really hope that you guys can experience an Ani-Pock convention someday, any maybe, by how successful our event was, you may consider launching your own convention.

Bike Cuff: Bicycle Theft Deterrent and Immobilizer

It's coming to the end of the school year for some of us. Time to show off what we've been pouring our time into!

Here's my term project for my industrial design class (IEOR 170). It's a possible solution to bicycle security! Asuka and I are going to make miliiiiiiiiions with this!
The Bike Cuff is designed to be used with another lock. Like "The Club" for cars, the Bike Cuff is a theft deterrent. It takes care of securing the front wheel and the frame, and in the process immobilizes steering at a 40 45 degree angle. The tight adjustable fit was inspired by handcuffs. This reduces space for insertion of pry tools and cable cutters.

This was a term project for IEOR 170 at the University of California Berkeley.

I am aware of the Master Lock Street Cuff. The Bike Cuff was designed with this in mind and has several advantages of the Street Cuff and AXA Lock widely used in Europe. The primary problem with the Street Cuff is that it the two halves are joined by a vulnerable metal chain. This lock has been defeated by simply cutting or even bending the chain. The Bike Cuff also features thicker, contoured edges to resist bolt cutters. The Master Lock Street Cuffs are more or less standard hand cuffs with some decorative plastic overlaid.

These slides could not be included within the 10 minute presentation unfortunately.

Story Time with Ichigo Stars. (Re-Run)

Once upon a time way back when Ani-Pock had a different face. A different address, and different members. It was a new site, like a pop can that just gotten opened. It’s all CO2’ed and tasty. But, slowly people started to use the site for nasty, disgusting things. Like cybering, flaming, spamming and the horrible thing called complaining. Pocky had planned to take down that chat that made all those nasty things to happen, but something happened! THERE WAS DISCUSSIONS! THERE WAS TALKING! NO MORE SPAM! Yes, people started to talk literately which caught more people’s attention and more people came on and off. This is where we start our story. This is where you get to hear the stories of way back Ani-pock, the drama, the stupidness, funnies and even the secrets! Let us begin:
Since Ichigo has such a horrible memory, this story can be incorrect and far fetched. Even with information it can still be wrong since this has happened long time ago and people’s memories suck like mine own. BUT! I can tell you these facts are right this time.
This was three years ago back on ani-pock’s first site. We used to have the beloved cBox where the chatting first began. But it was also a dangerous times if you weren’t careful. The mods weren’t around often to watch the cBox which caused spamming and name stealing. But, even with this hanging around there still was talking, role playing (that was me. XD) and discussion. There was also romance in the air at Ani-Pock. But this romance soon became dramatic and deadly. Yes, deadly.
There was once a time when Phil was going out with Sakura, TenTen’s twin sister. It was going all so well. You could say there were two pockies in a coconut Pocky Box. But then, something came slithering about. It was something so horrible that it spread all around the site. Cheating. It was known that Phil was cheating on Sakura with PC. Yes, girls and boys, PC. Everyone gasped so violently that the site was down for a few hours, but it was back up before anyone noticed. When the news came to Sakura she was in tears. She could not believe he had cheated on her with another women! She wasn’t heard from ever again claiming she was going to kill herself. Of course all of you must be thinking she is a emo teenager that will get over it in a week after cutting herself. Nope. She ran away from her home. How do we know this? I hope you didn’t forget Sakura’s twin sister TenTen. She was angry at Phil for making her sister run away, but it wasn’t till a few days later that we find out Sakura had been killed. Some say she was killed during Hurricane Katrina and others say she hung herself in the closet, suicide. People in Ani-Pock were mixed in feelings. Some believed what TenTen said was true and other thought she was lying. Where did I side? Guess. Where would you believe I would be in this mess? Of course, I didn’t believe her. Who in the world would kill themselves over a internet relationship?! Apparently she did. I voiced out my opinion to the girl saying I didn’t believe her along with some others, and got myself banned. Yes, we got banned from that beloved cBox for not believing that TenTen’s sister died. Though we got ourselves unbanned by Pocky himself with the help of the draw board. After a day or two since this explosion of messy hair and blood we got ourselves some more information. It turns out that Sakura and TenTen weren’t twin sisters! They were the same person! WOW! What a horrible soup opera. So from what the few people that remember this story we have made this wonderful drama tale of Ani-Pock. Some of you will laugh at the remembrance of this story and others will be horrified or still be laughing. I hope it makes you laugh. xD
