Ichi's Winter Classic

Because Pocky is stupid and forgets to give me admin powers for the community blog.

Hey Everyone. As most of you all know Ichigo Stars, me, is a huge Hockey fan. And how I always manage to yell out 'GOOOOOAL!' on the chat box. Now, I'm use not all of you are die hard hockey fans, or even watch the sport anyways. Now, there is something new that has come along, THE WINTER CLASSIC! The first time there is a official game outside, or better yet in a football stadium. ;o Which Ichigo lives like 20 minutes away from. Unluckly I can't make it to the game because there is no more tickets…I think. Plus it'll be below 20 degrees. I'll rather watch it on HDTV. Now, this game is going to be shown in Canada (CBC and NBC) as in the US…some channel, I think NBC too. Now for some information:

More than 73,000 fans are expected to pack Buffalo's Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the NFL's Bills, for the 1 p.m. matchup. The marketing blitz is on for the Big Outdoor Game, erm, Winter Classic, between the Penguins and the Sabres. I've seen plenty of online advertising on all sorts of random sites, along with TV ads sprinkled throughout the prime-time lineup.

A large part of me is left wondering what's the fuss with all of this? Why is a single regular-season game between two teams hovering around .500 getting more hype than a Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final?

The answer? Money — or lack thereof. The playoffs, as much as we die-hards treasure and love them, are only a minor blip on the sports radar for most people. This single game, however, is something that marketing executives love. You've got the league's poster boy — hey, even casual sports fans are starting to learn who Sidney Crosby is, and he's basically the only NHL player that mainstream media will touch — combined with the team that sold the most jerseys and merchandise last year; that little formula ensures that there will be some recognition among the couch potatoes on New Year's Day.

For sports fans who don't care about hockey, the "What's this?" factor should cause a little spike in interest while surfing the channels. Will they stay or just turn away? Chances are, they'll watch for a few seconds, then flip the channel, but perhaps that's just the pessimist's point of view.
Now, ladies and little boys. I want you to go and catch the game~ :3 Okay?

A Christmas Message

Merry Christmas Ani-Pock!

Here's a quick, fun Christmas game for you.
Build a sled, and race it.
Be sure to post your high scores in the forum.

Even if Christmas is not your holiday, the intention of the season is a beautiful opportunity to share time with the ones you love in the comfort of a warm setting. Have some cocoa, settle in, and tell your family you love them. If you can't be with them, be sure to call them, and express how much you care for them and all they have done for you thie year.
And to my friends on Ani-Pock, I appreciate you too, and wish you all a happy 2008, we are a great community of friends, to be sure, but today, spend some time away, Ani-Pock will be here tomorrow. And we will all want to hear about the cool gifts you got then.
Happiest of holidays!

Save Energy When Searching, Use Blackle

Blackle, powered by Google, is an independent group's (called Heap Media) attempt to make a custom Google search page that uses less energy than a traditional white-colored Google page does.
How does it work? Supposedly the black color produces less energy to process and display. From Blackle's website: "Image displayed is primarily a function of the user's color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows; a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen."

The Google Blog suggests that this custom website may not actually reduce energy needed by your computer to display the image, but suggests other ways to consume less energy while at your computer:
  • turn on the power management features. Virtually all computers today have the ability to switch into low-power modes automatically when they're idle; very few computers have this capability enabled! Here's how to do it on computers running Windows XP.
  • turn off your monitor and computer when you're not using them
  • turn down the brightness on your monitor
  • make sure your next computer meets the efficiency standards of Climate Savers Computing (an efficient computer uses up to 50% less energy than a conventional one)
  • to find the most efficient PCs available today, look for the words "EnergyStar 4.0 compliant."
In addition to these, Google powers their search servers with renewable energy.
Here is a link to the Blackle website that will open up in the Ani-Pock browser! Give it a try, you don't have to leave the site!

Update: See also some of the Blackle variations (other Google-powered sites with black backgrounds) on this blog. Even if you can't read German, most of the sites the blog links to are in Engilsh.

IH8-IE8?

Microsoft's Internet Exploder... er... Explorer blog discussed some product details on their newest version of IE: IE8.

But what to name it? Stick with the classic IEx format where x = the latest version?
Here are some names the design team considered, taken from the blog:

IE 7+1
IE VIII
IE 1000 (think binary)
IE Eight!
iIE
IE for Web 2.0 (Service Pack 2)
IE Desktop Online Web Browser Live Professional Ultimate Edition for the Internet (the marketing team really pushed for this one ;-)
Ie2.079 (we might still use this for the Math Major Edition)

I think it should be Internet Explorer for Make Benefit Glorious Internet of America.

Someone proposed Firefox Downloading Tool 8.
They get Kip Kudos.

Pocky's Sudden Change

[Teh pic has mysteriously disappeared. If someone wants to draw a recreation, it can go here! but only a drawing!]

THE SUPRISING SEX CHANGE OF ANI-POCK!
Many of us have seen the sudden change of Ani-pock. It has changed it's name to 'Ani-pockette.' This recent changes were due to Pocky, this site's creator. We know him as Pocky, or in real life terms Roland. The past few days we had not seen our famous creator, and there was a reason. He had undergone a sex change. Yes, a sex change. He had turned himself into a female. Chopping off some of this and that and adding some other features. He has announced that his new name was Rolanda, and he would changed the whole site in celebration of this operation.
Behold citizens of Ani-pockette.
We have now witnessed a new day in age.
THE FEMALE POCKY!
